ART AGAINST LONELINESS 2026

YOUNG PEOPLE AND SENIORS FROM FLENSBURG DISCOVER THE ART OF FLENSBURG ARTIST HENRIK BECKER TOGETHER ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2026

What can happen when young people and senior citizens stand together in front of a work of art?

Conversations emerge, surprising perspectives are shared, and encounters take place between two generations who often have little contact in everyday life. For many, memories are awakened and new inspiration is sparked. This is precisely where the social project “KUNST GEGEN EINSAMKEIT” (ART AGAINST LONELINESS), initiated by KUNST FÜR ANGELN, comes in.

Founded by Ingrid Roosen-Trinks five years ago, the initiative brings upper-secondary school students from the region together with senior citizens from Angeln and the Schleswig-Flensburg district.

Among other activities, KUNST FÜR ANGELN organises transport for older people from residential and care facilities to our exhibitions. There, they are welcomed by the young people and accompanied through the exhibition by Ingrid Roosen-Trinks. Together, they engage in conversations about contemporary art. Afterwards, there is time for exchange and social interaction over coffee, refreshments and cake.

Older people are given the opportunity to participate in cultural life, while young people discover how enriching an exchange with another generation can be.

This autumn, we are welcoming senior citizens from a residential care community in Flensburg, accompanied by upper-secondary students from the Alten Gymnasium in Flensburg.

The focus of the art visit is our solo exhibition by the young Flensburg artist Henrik Becker, presented by KUNST FÜR ANGELN at Wittkielhof.

This exchange is a particularly important part of the project:

“I want the senior citizens to experience a special day – and I also want the young people to take something away from this encounter. In the end, it is about art, but it is just as much about closeness, exchange, attention and experiencing something together.”
