ART OVERCOMES BOUNDARIES 2022

REVIEW OF THE FIRST YEAR OF THE SOCIAL PROJECT INITIATED BY KUNST FÜR ANGELN

A film team of 4 students Kira Eggert (17), Jennifer Petersen (17), Ibrahim Khodor (17) and Leonard Diaz (16) of the Bernstorff-Gymnasium from Satrup and seniors from South Jutland have started in 2022 a new pilot project “ART OVERCOMES BOUNDARIES”.
The students from Angeln met several times in the border region with seniors from South Jutland to get to know contemporary artists from both countries and their works in exhibitions in Sønderborg and Angeln. The entire project has been recorded by the students as part of a documentary. The project has been organized and made possible by the association KUNST FÜR ANGELN e.V. and in part supported by KULTURFOKUS/interreg.

The pilot project started on 5 October 2022 in Sønderborg with a German / Danish art exhibition at the Sønderborg Art School under the direction of Thomas Lunau and continued at the Roosen-Trinks Collection on the WITTKIELHOF under the direction of curator Corinna Koch and collector Ingrid Roosen-Trinks until the end of October.

An extension and exhibition are planned for spring 2023. Opening: April 16, 2023
With this new project “ART OVERCOMES BOUNDARIES” another cultural milestone is set for the expansion of the German / Danish friendship, to optimize the exchange between the generations and to expand the artistic contacts between the two countries.

Each student has his or her own reasons why he or she participates in this project.
“My grandmother also had a nice time in a shared apartment in Angeln with very socially committed people. Through this formative time, I’m particularly looking forward to this cross-generational project and the new experiences.”, says Jennifer Petersen. Kira Eggert mentions another aspect: ”I’ve not really known my grandparents myself and therefore look forward to meeting seniors who do not get to see their grandchildren often and spend time with them.“
